Join us for a hands-on workshop at our backyard urban farm site in North Tacoma (4510 N. 10th St) on Saturday, August 8, 2026. Each workshop will last about 90 minutes.
Participants will practice using stand-up and hand soil blockers, as well as making soil balls for larger seedlings. This plastic-free technique allows for air pruning, which prevents root-bound plants and minimizes transplant stress. This is how we start almost all of our crops at Happy Kitchen Farm and love sharing this practice with others.
Each participant will take home a tray of plant starts for your fall and winter garden, plus a tip sheet of resources and best practices.
We’ll also take a walking tour of our backyard growing area, the original home site for Happy Kitchen Farm. The class size is small, so there’s plenty of time to answer your gardening questions, too.
Kids under 18 are free to attend.
